a friend of me wants to buy himself a new pc, mainly for games.
but as allways, he cant decide, what to get, so i told him, id ask my personal heros from tech-support :emot151:
here are the specs of a allready built pc, he looked at.
-Intel Core i5750 (quadcore) 2660mhz
-ddr3 1066
-1tb disk space
-ati radeon 5850 (1025mb)
- windows 7 home premium
link to the page (on german) (http://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/OffersOfProduct/1755292_-machine-from-hell-xl-medion.html)
what to you think?
what would you reccomend for him?
as i said he wants to play games, so i think 4gb ram, a 3ghz dualcore, or quadcore and a gpu with at least 512mb should fit him, right?
also, what do you prefer, nvidia, or ati and why?

For games get Xbox 360 or PS3, because novadays all games be ported from console to PC. And beleve me that games is bad optimised for PC and run with shit performance on hi-end hardware.
The time is ower for PC games.
And to play normal old school games like TF2, L4D & L4D2, CS:S, Crysis, FuckCry2, etc. you need dual core CPU + 2GB RAM + GFX with 512MB.

Consoles are gay, I'd get the first setup, but with DDR3 1600 instead of 1066 because I have 1600 :p
I was always a swapper between consoles and pc, but that changed last year. The pure amount of games coming to X360 and PS3 amazing as well as the developers' support for post-release DLCs. I've gotta say that 2007 through to 2009 has been three of the best, if not the best years of gaming. Just look at the sheer amount of quality new IPs and old series coming back to life. Last year I was blown away by MGS4(Teh ultimate pure epicness of the highest order) and Fallout 3. This year by Uncharted 2(pure awesomeness) and of course Dragon Age: Origins.
ps. fuck modern warfare 2(CoD in general) and Infinity Ward along with it.

sry, but the best decade for games was the 90's ;)
mario kart, lylatwars, warcraft, starcraft and cnc 1, ra1 and cnc ts.
+ the multiple zorq games, ut AND aoe.
cnc created a whole genre, without it, we wouldnt have most strategy games today. :emot50:
i guess, the consoles are having a golden age right now, but what are they? specialized computers.
sooner, or later, computers will catch up again if alone through their flexibility and possibility to adapt.
after all, if the consoles adapt and add funktions like internet, etc, etc, they will just be pc's with a different controlling interface =)

Poya is not old enough to remember the 90's :p
The biggest problem and the real reason I haven't bought a console yet is the crappy control interface. Playing a FPS and controling it with 2 small sticks just sucks imo....I need a mouse and a keyboard :emot30:
Dude I've been in gaming since 91. I liked all the arcade games like Shinobi and of course the SEGA vs Nintendo wars, but to me, the most important element in any form of entertainment is(music aside) storyline. Due to hardware limitations very few, if any, games contained any storyline at all.
And that's my reason.

again i call upon the mighty cnc 1 tiberian dawn! :emot30:
the game created a new genre, but its story created a religion! :p
oh and dont forget final fantasy ;)
and zorq (and all the other riddle-like games^^)
but u have a point, my russian friend, the story has become much more important today, as almost every game has to have one, even racing games.
oh, btw, i forgot one name in my list of epic games.
GTA!

GTA!
All GTA series games first come out for console, and 1.5 years later on PC.
My point is you can take console for ~300$ (for that money you can buy only good middle-end GFX for PC) and you know all games on this platform run and you not take any compatibility issues and shit 10fps in game.
Or spend some 900$ - 1500$ for uber game PC and just take heart attac every time when you install new game (errors, low fps, gfx gliches, lots of patches, etc.).
I mean if you not need PC for work and take it only to play games i say you are creazy as hell.
I understand game developers :
1. M$ and Sony pay good money for games.
2. You not need support all shit hardware differences for PC, and thats make development easy and fast.
3. All PC releases take cracked at same week as he come out, and 90% of ppl just dl game and play for free.
PS
And Matt belive me on console with auto aim option and with 2 small sticks
you can blow head off same as BOT's make it in CSS :)

Gaming has become such big business that they had to make it accessible to the masses ie for people who can barely find the internet when they switch on a computer and those lovely kiddies who populate 360 live. PC gaming laid the fioundation and sadly the money men are directing it towards the whole family. Look at the Wii. They advertise that as fun for the WHOLE family. If you had to plug the controller into a PC I can't see mum n Dad taking much interest, but because its connected to the TV (the families favourite box) it becomes accessible to them. Consoles are the natural evolution which allows the rest of the world to get a taste of what we've been gorging on for years.
Controllers do suck ass Matt, but u can plug a keyboard and mouse into the PS3 I think ;). I dont play FPS on consoles for the same reason m8.
Commodre 64 FTW!!!
Final Fantasy was released in 1987 so that doesn't really make it a game of the 90's.
In the end, it's all about the preferences, so we could argue about this forever.
While I completely agree with you that games like Command & Conquer, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto and Wolfenstein single-handedly created new genres throughout the 90's, but that still doesn't make them a better game that the current games.
Command & Conquer spawned the RTS genre, but games like Bioshock, MGS4, Mass Effect, GTAIV, Uncharted 2 and as much as I hate it CoD: Modern Warfare set new standards in how the games will be judged by from now on. They completely changed the way games are being made. It's become a larger form of entertainment so it's not just picking up the controller and moving or attacking from point A to point B. I actually happened to see the behind the scenes from Uncharted 2 and the voice actors "acted" the cutscene talking while having motion sensors on their bodies just like a real movie. And just like Paul mentioned above the games are no longer for children or the youth, they're practically for everyone. That is the Evolution of Gaming.
The graphics being constantly polished, The ever rising quality of soundtracks(Composers like Zimmer, Inon Zur, Jack Wall and Harry-Gregson Williams literally make me wet), the epic twists in storylines and let's not forget about the interactive cutscenes.
Like I said before, to me, the most important element is storyline.
I loved going to the arcade or the club as a kid, playing Bare Knuckles, Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi or playing Super Contra, Nekketsu(which I still play) and TMNT with my brothers and cousins, but the fondest memories, biggest shocks, epic(you can't get any more epic than MGS/SOC in this department) boss-battles and the most emotional moments when I actually cried like a baby were in the games that were released in the current decade.
Right now I'm completely in love with Dragon Age: Origins[PS3](Yes, I am eternally BioWare's bitch.)
PS. I'm not Russian, so I don't know who you're mistaking me for. Andy has Russian blood in him, not me.

was it wirl?
it weas something with w^^
It's Ryuu(Pouya). Also Matt, Like Paul said, you can use Keyboards with PS3 and X360. My Logitech G15 has 2 additional USB slots so guess where they've been plugged. As for FPS on consoles, I know that there is at least one good controller for PS3 called Frag FX. it's about 70€ and it has a decent edge. If you want to buy a PS3, you should buy that too(since most of you seem to favour FPS genre) and wait for MAG to launch. I can say for certain that MAG(Massive Action Game) is going to be a huge game just like its name implies.
let him buy it
i was sitting with awful pc for 7 years , month ago i bougth new one - c2duo quad 9400 , 4GB ddr3, 9800gt .. and it was for 20k rub = $700 but we have all more expensive ..
